The road to the secret location (Ag. Iannis) - the countryside is very green - it rained heavily in June - I dream of riding the GS and not looking over the unprotected shoulders. |
Within 10 minutes of arriving at the Eaglets Nest pussy #1 arrives for lunch - thought to be a pregnant female according to eagle eyed Mrs N. Many more pussies subsequently came. |
First Sunset |
Nikos Top Tip #1 - Every morning check Crocs(tm) for resident scorpions. |
The rain in June had ruined the grape harvest - wasp nuisance was down too. |
Second sunset |

Naplion, the nearest big town had been the capital of newly liberated Greece for a period in the 1800s. |
Naplion is dominated by a Venetian castle Palamidi built in the 1680s |
As Noel Coward pointed out it's only mad dogs and Englishmen who go out in the midday sun. |
Proof that Greece is for sale |
The unusually high September temperatures ended with a huge thunderstorm with spectacular lightning sent by Ἄργης, Βρόντης, and Στερόπης Gods of thunder and lightning. Sunset that day. |
To be concluded....
In part 2 we withdraw to Athens to sample tear gas first hand.
PS I forgot lunch:-
Healthy vlita and peasant salad |
Nikos:
ReplyDeleteI smile as I noticed those Pink Cros Ms Nikos was wearing in the 4th photo from the end. But of course, you were waiting for me to recognize them.
Isn't that always the way ? on the bike = rain, but in the car = sunny and warm.
I thought your secret hideaway was a finished cabin up the mountain
Happy vacation !

Riding the Wet Coast
A nice getaway. I am glad you had some sunshine.
ReplyDeleteThe food looks great too. The salad in the last shot looks like one of my favorites. In the US we call it Greek Salad. Does that mean you just call it 'salad' when in Greece?
Bob
ReplyDeleteI can't conceal anything from you.
Trobairitz
In Greece a salad is a salad is a salad.
The peasant salad is a horiatiko and is eaten mainly by tourists and is sometimes called a Greek salad.
I hope that all is clear now!
That mound of green stuff is quite good for the lower digestive system by the way.
AS always an amusing take on your intrepid tales. Nice sunsets, fod looked good, I think youare aosessed with cats by the way....just an observation!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous photos Nikos. I would use that technical UK phrase "The Dog's Bollocks" to describe them but in this case, they're clearly the Cat's Bollocks.
ReplyDeleteThe food looks divine - can I hang out another couple of hours until dinner time?
Thanks for giving me a craving for Greek food.
ReplyDeleteYour pics remind me of wonderful times spent on Samos.
More power to the crocs (TM).
Niko, this is both excellent and timely. Having spend a superb holiday in Nafplion and the Argolid a few years back, I'm pursuaded Mrs Dilo and the usual 8 (yes 8) of her friends with whom we go on holiday that we should go to the western Peloponnese next summer. Sadly they've never heard of Arcadia either as a place or as a concept, but I'm convinced I can swing it. I'm fancing Koroni as our seaside base - you ever been there? - failing that, Pylos. Yes, we'll be driving down from Romania.
ReplyDeleteDear Nikos:
ReplyDeleteWhat the hell is this? For six weeks there is nothing posted but the tram schedule for a backwater in the Ukraine, and then the screen is flooded with the trials and tribulations of Nikos?
Then just as I sit down to a cup of coffee and whiskey (7am), I have to read about resident scorpions. Who would live in a hell like this? Can't they spray something or bury industrial waste in the ground to kill these things? (Pretend its the US.)
Who owns Greece these days? I thought it was the Deutche Bank?
And including a picture of a cat's ass just reminds me of a former inlaw.
Fondest regards,
Jack/reep
Twisted Roads
Did you buy Greece then? Did it fit into your suitcase? And did the airline ask more $$$ for the extra weight? Still laughing at the Elvis rock'n'roll loo caption.

ReplyDeleteMrs N is into cats, me crocs (tm)
Geoff
That's what they are then - mystery solved!
Sonja
ReplyDeleteYou are welcome but Greek food always tastes better in Greece - it's the tomatoes I reckon
Dear Gadjo
ReplyDeleteI've stayed in Pylos several times and can recommend it - always good to view the Navarino scene of Turkish carnage. I suppose Koroni has an added castle so it must be good too.
I'll watch out for a charabanc with Romanian registration sometime next summer?
Jack
ReplyDeleteI have been busy reading your book for 6 weeks - I hope you can notice that my blog has taken a step up in political incorrectness?
Can I sell you a clod of Greek earth?
Thanks for writing in - I hope that the move to Lake Titicaca is working out OK for you.

Ulrika
ReplyDeleteAre you interested in purchasing a clod of Greek earth? Trodden on by ancients and more....
Very nice pics again.... would like to be there.... too good food... poor Pasha... such a lovely tom-Cat....
ReplyDeleteGlobetrotting Crocs(tm). If I offer to let you walk on me and I craddle your feet can I come with you and Mrs N on your adventures??
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, I spied the wo-man eaters on Mrs N's feet too. :)
I sure am glad they received a bath is such an auspicious location, they were looking dirty! hehe
Wonderful pics. Your holiday looked fantastic.
