Sag mir wo die Blumen sind


The nine of us participating in the "France for the Nervous" weekend 'cycle tour of Normandy visited Vimy ridge and took in the poignancy of the Canadian memorial.

  1. So much sad European history throughout France and the Low Countries. There has always been a leaning towards WW1 in our household, part due to history 'O' level in the 70's.

Ah yes, WW1: It's fate that took my Mother's grandfather from Chatham to Gallipoli as a Colonel in the Royal Marines - he perished there aged 44 - and my Father's father who (as a Greek from Thrace) had been enlisted into the Turkish army - he lost an arm in the conflict but survived....I need to visit that place the Turks defended to the last.
